Q: God has given you specific places and people that you have influence with. List those
people and places.
Q: How and where do you influence (impact) them?
Q: Who was a great influence on you? Why?
“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing;
and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” - John 13:3-5 (NIV)
Q: Jesus recognized He had all power and authority. How did He use that power for those
He influenced the most?
Q: How is this an example of influence for us?
Q: How are you going to influence those around you? (Hint: Jesus was not demanding, but
came to serve.)
I want to encourage you to get a book called “Becoming a Person of Influence,” by
Dr. John Maxwell. This is a tremendous life-changing book.
Q: What influences do you have in your life that help you lead your life with purity?
Influence can change people and communities. There is a calling of God on men to be
leaders and influencers in their families, places of employment, communities, churches,
etc. Influence must flow from a source. We know that the disciples of Jesus spread the
gospel around the world and their influence is still strong today. Their success came from
being continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. - Acts 13:52 (NIV)
Q: Who or what fills your spirit? (Think of when you felt full and satisfied.)
Influence is a transforming agent. Transformation of the man must begin on the inside by
“Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul
and with all of your mind and with all of your strength.
The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
We are called to love God. Also, we know God loves us. This love, in both directions,
influences us deeply. So much so that we are then asked to love our neighbors and become
His influence on them.
Q: How does the love of God influence you?
Q: How does the love of God allow you to influence others?
